who is god?
Are you curious to know who God is? We would love to invite you to learn with us. Understanding the nature of God is foundational to the Assembly of God doctrine, as it shapes our beliefs, worship, and relationship with Him. The Scriptures reveal that God is a triune being, existing eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructs His disciples, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
First and foremost, God is the Almighty Creator, as declared in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” He is the source of all life, wisdom, and power. Through His spoken word, He brought the universe into existence.
God is also loving and merciful. The Scriptures repeatedly emphasize His compassion and grace towards humanity. In 1 John 4:8, it is written, “God is love.” His love is unconditional, demonstrated through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross for the redemption of humanity. Ephesians 2:4-5 affirms, “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
Furthermore, God is all-knowing and sovereign. Psalm 139:1-4 describes His intimate knowledge of every individual, saying, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me… Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” God’s sovereignty is seen in His control over all things, working according to His perfect plan and purpose.
Lastly, God is holy and just. He is morally perfect and righteous in all His ways. In 1 Peter 1:15-16, it is written, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.'”
